NEW YORK - The nation paused Thursday to mark the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a heartfelt ceremony at ground zero and other solemn remembrances around the country.

Relatives of victims killed at the World Trade Center gathered at ground zero in lower Manhattan for readings from dignitaries and a recitation of the names of the dead. Later Thursday, presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain were due at ground zero to pay silent respects.

"Today marks the seventh anniversary of the day our world was broken," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "It lives forever in our hearts and our history, a tragedy that unites us in a common memory and a common story ... the day that began like any other and ended as none ever has."

The ceremony at ground zero included moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. — the times that two hijacked jets slammed into the twin towers. Two more moments of silence were to be held at the times the towers fell. Services were also being held in Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon, where a new memorial will be dedicated.

Relatives of victims began arriving at dawn at ground zero, now a huge construction site. American flags were draped over silent cranes.

Maureen Hunt, wearing a T-shirt with a picture of her sister, Kathleen, a 9/11 victim, said that it was comforting to be at the ceremony with so many who have lost loved ones.

"This is a place for us to meet," said Hunt, who has come each year to pay her respects. "It is not getting easier to attend these ceremonies."

Family members and students representing more than 90 countries that lost victims on Sept. 11 read the names of 2,751 people killed in New York, one more than last year. The city restored Sneha Philip, a woman who mysteriously vanished on Sept. 10, 2001, to its official death toll this year after a court ruled that she was likely killed at the trade center.

Among the readers was Laraine Angeline, who lost brother-in-law, Steve Pollicino. "Steve, your smiles live on with us," she said. "Our separation is temporary. Our love for you is forever."

McCain and Obama planned to visit the site after the ceremony concluded Thursday afternoon. The candidates agreed weeks ago to pull their campaign ads for the day and were appearing together Thursday night at a forum on volunteerism and service.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani was to speak at the ceremony, as he has every year in New York, along with officials including Bloomberg and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Last year's reading by Giuliani, then a Republican presidential candidate, drew protests from family members who said the city was ill-prepared for the terrorist attacks under his leadership and questioned whether he should be there while running for the White House. They had no opposition to McCain and Obama' visit this year.

In Arlington, Va., Defense Secretary Robert Gates was scheduled to speak at a ceremony dedicating the memorial at the Pentagon, the first of three major Sept. 11 memorials to be completed.

The 2-acre park, located at the spot where American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon's west wall, consists primarily of 184 cantilevered benches, each bearing a victim's name.

President Bush and first lady Laura Bush marked the anniversary during a moment of silence on the South Lawn of the White House. The president was then to head to the Pentagon memorial.

In Pennsylvania, at least 200 people gathered Thursday morning at an observance in a reclaimed minefield in Shanksville where Flight 93 came down after passengers reportedly stormed the cockpit to thwart terrorists' plans to use that plane as a weapon like the others. Bells were to toll and victims' names would be read as part of the service.

McCain was also attending the memorial service in Shanksville for the 40 people killed aboard the hijacked flight.

Memorials are years away from being built in Pennsylvania and New York. As in past years, two bright blue beams of light will shine at night on the New York City skyline, in memory of the fallen towers.

KLCC TINGKAT 13

Baik-baik bila pergi ke KLCC !! Bawa kawan dan jangan sorang-sorang. Kisah benar yang mengerikan lagi menyeramkan ini terjadi kepada seorang staff lelaki yang bekerja di tingkat 40 bangunan KLCC.


Pada hari tersebut (hari Khamis malam Jum'at) beliau ada membuat OT dan terpaksa pulang agak lewat kira-kira jam 11 malam sendirian. Sampai di depan lif, dia pun tekan tombol untuk turun. Kemudian,pintu lift terbuka tanpa ada siapa2 didalamnya. Dia masuk dan tekan tombol "G" untuk ke Ground floor.

Tetapi entah mengapa, lift yang dia naiki itu terus naik ke atas, tidak turun ke bawah. Ketika sampai di tingkat 59, lift tersebut berhenti. Dan pintu lif terbuka... kemudian masuklah seorang perempuan yang cantik dan menawan sekali sambil tersenyum manis. Dia tak pernah melihat perempuan itu sepanjang bertugas di KLCC. Perempuan tadi pun masuk dan berdiri di belakangnya.


Dia tertanya-tanya di dalam hatinya... "Siapa perempuan itu, dan kenapa sudah lewat malam belum pulang ke rumah?" Mau disapa terasa malu p**a, jadi masing-masing saling diamlah. Dalam suasana hening sepi itu, lift tersebut terus meluncur turun dari satu tingkat ke satu tingkat.


Tiba di tingkat 13, lampu lift terpadam dan lift terhenti. Dia mencium bau yang teramat busuk, yang mengganggu rongga hidungnya. Bulu romanya tiba-tiba berdiri. Dalam keadaan yang begitu cemas dan seram, dia cuba menenangkan perasaannya dengan membaca apa sahaja ayat-ayat suci yang terlintas diingatannya sambil memberanikan diri untuk menoleh ke belakang setelah lampu lift menyala. Tiba-tiba saja, perempuan yang berada belakangnya ketawa ......... dan segera berkata ........

Some Opening Ceremony fireworks were faked

If you watched the Opening Ceremony on Friday night, chances are you said something like, "no way that's possible" at least once. It turns out you were right.

London's Telegraph newspaper reports that some of the fireworks which appeared over Beijing during the television broadcast of the Olympic Opening Ceremony were actually computer generated. But -- hold on -- it's not necessarily as bad as you think.

The faked fireworks were actually set-off at the stadium, but because of potential dangers in filming the display live from a helicopter, viewers at home were shown a pre-recorded, computer-generated shot. It sounds dishonest, but I'm not sure it's such a terrible thing.

The Opening Ceremony is, at its core, just one big performance. And isn't it accepted that some things might not be legit at a performance? The final torch bearer wasn't actually running around the top of the stadium, does the fact that everyone could figure that out make it any less impressive? It might have been unnecessarily deceptive, but the firework-faking isn't really that big of a deal. But, if I found out that the lighted-drum thing wasn't on the up and up, then we'll have problems, China.

Enam orang lelaki terus ditahan oleh polis walaupun dua majistret di mahkamah berasingan telah memerintahkan mereka dibebaskan segera.

Mahkamah majistret pada 31 Julai telah mengarahkan keenam-enamnya dibebaskan dari ibu pejabat polis daerah (IPD) Petaling Jaya setelah setelah direman empat hari atas siasatan kes berhubung penculikan.

Bagaimanapun mereka dipindahkan ke IPD Klang pada hari yang sama dan dibawa ke depan majistret atas siasatan berhubung rompakan berkumpulan.

Majistret Klang juga mengarahkan mereka dibebaskan.

Mereka kemudian dipindahkan sekali lagi ke IPD Petaling Jaya dan ditahan bawah Ordinan Darurat yang membenarkan penangkapan sehingga 60 hari tanpa dibawa depan majistret.

Dua di antara mereka Al-Amin Zulkernain dan Samuel Raj Sivajothi membuat aduan kepada Suruhanjaya Hak Asasi Manusia Malaysia (Suhakam) petang ini berhubung dakwaan "salah guna kuasa polis" dan tindakan pasukan itu yang dianggap "berniat jahat" (mala fide).

Peguam kedua-duanya Francis Pereira berkata, Al-Amin juga mendakwa beliau dipukul sewaktu siasatan di Petaling Jaya.

Aduan Al-Amin disampaikan oleh isterinya Fatimah Begum Mohd Kasim, sementara Samuel Raj diwakili kakaknya Padmini Sivajothi, kepada naib pengerusi Suhakam, Tan Sri Simon Sapuan di pejabat suruhanjaya itu di Jalan Raja Laut.

Turut hadir dalam majlis itu, pesuruhjaya Datuk Siva Subaramaniam, ketua bahagian aduannya Nurul Hasanah Ahamed, dua lagi peguam dan ahli-ahli keluarga Al-Amin dan Samuel Raj.

This is the movie that i have been waiting to watch for. i have been a great fan of Jet Li and he is going to steal the movie much like Heath Ledger stole the Dark Knight. I really respect the ancient Egypt, as i'm a big fan of ancient cultures. But i have to correct u: the chinese indeed could make mummies (though until now there are only two chinese mummies discovered, i.e. the one of "Lady of Dai"), obviously far better than the Egyptians. They didn't need to take out all the organs and the skin and hair are kept better conserved and softer like in their living days, while egyptian mummies are dried and stiff. If u don't believe me, just google "Lady of Dai".:) It's going to be an AWESOME BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE!!!!

I like eat fruits, all kind of fruits i do like, including the star fruit. Everytime when i lim teh at mamak stall, i frequently order star fruit juice. Today, when i read an article claimed that star fruit can end up our life, I am so SHOCKED !It cannot be what! Coz star fruit just only a fruit and not a poison! But, it really happend In Shenzhen, China. More than 10 people who consumed the star fruit had died. And now a 66-year-old Malaysian who has been suffering from kidney ailment fell into coma after eating the start fruits.

Damn # when i reading the article!

The symptoms of start fruit poisoning include:

BOSTONelaki mengamalkan diet sayur-sayuran berasaskan soya dinasihatkan mengurangkan pengambilan makanan itu apabila penyelidik mendapati iaberisiko menjejaskan kesuburan golongan itu dengan mengurangkan bilangan sperma.

Kajian mendedahkan, lelaki yang makan purata separuh makanan berasaskan soya menghasilkan bilangan sperma kurang berbanding mereka yang tidak memakannya. Di kalangan lelaki yang memiliki berat badan berlebihan atau obes, kesannya lebih nyata.

Kurang bilangan sperma diketahui menyukarkan lelaki menghamilkan isteri atau pasangannya.

Menurut penyelidik, bahan digelar isoflavones dalam soya yang menyerupai hormon seks wanita, oestrogen, dipercayai menjadi punca.Kajian ke atas haiwan mengaitkan pengambilan tinggi isoflavones dengan masalah ketidaksuburan.

Dalam kajian terbaru, penyelidik Amerika Syarikat mendapati lelaki yang mengamalkan pengambilan tinggi makanan berasaskan soya memiliki bilangan sperma jauh lebih sedikit berbanding lelaki yang tidak memakannya langsung.
Di ketuaiDr Jorge Chavarro dari Jabatan Kesihatan Awam Harvard di Boston, merekamenyoal lelaki mengenai pengambilan 15 jenis makanan berasaskan soya.Ia termasuk tofu, tempe, sosej soya, burger, susu soya, keju, dadih danais krim, hasil soya seperti kacang panggang dan minuman.

Lelaki dalam kumpulan mengamalkan pengambilan paling tinggidiberi makanan berasaskan soya secara purata setengah hidangan sehari.

Kaitan antara pengambilan soya dan bilangan sperma lebih kuatdi kalangan lelaki obes atau memiliki berat badan berlebihan, keranatubuh mereka mengeluarkan lebih banyak oestrogen berbanding lelakikurus, kata penyelidik. � Agensi

Mengapa Presiden UMNO Dollah Badawi dan Timbalannya Najib melarikan diri dari akhbar selepas mesyuarat Majlis tertinggi UMNO semalam?

Adakah malu untuk menjawab mengapa PAS menolak jemputan mereka untuk bermuzakarah? Kali ini UMNO cuba atas nama Islam. Lupakan sekejap isu perpecahan Melayu. UMNO masih mahu, mengajak PAS, bagai hidung tak mancung pipi tersorong-sorong? Aduhai ibarat calar diurut air garam! “Rejection is surely painful”.

Apakah Dolah dan Najib juga malu besar bila suara antarabangsa melempar ke muka Dolah dan Najib supaya berpegang kepada prinsip “rule of law” dalam konspirasi liwat Anwar Ibrahim?
“Paaap!”. Seperti tamparan tepat ke muka. Malaysia tidak akan mampu untuk menolak pandangan antarabangsa kecuali ia duduk dalam liga yang sama dengan Myammar atau Zimbabwe.

Oh, Najib! Adakah bimbang jadi gabrah bila ditekan oleh akhbar/press akan pendedahan terbaharu Raja Petra bahawa Najib dan Saiful Bukhari telah merancang tuduhan sodomi terhadap Anwar? Pasti Najib akan gabrah bila bertalu-tallu diminta komen bahawa RPK punya rakaman video berkaitan perjumpaan Najib dan Saiful. (ada saksi lain).

Jarang sekali dua tokoh besar parti dan pemimpin utama negara menghindari press selesai sahaja mesyuarat. Malahan biasanya suka benar bila dinanti pihak akhbar selepas mesyuarat.

Melewati akhbar sama tidak menghormati kehadiran mereka yang sentiasa menanti tak kira waktu untuk memberi liputan. Biasanya mesyuarat MT UMNO bermula bermula awal malam dan berakhir tak tahu masanya malahan hingga jam 1 pagi pun ada. Saya arif benar kerana pernah mengalaminya.

Waktu menanti inilah para jurnalis berkumpul, bergosip dan mengemaskini sesama rakan akan perkembangan semasa. Dalam senario kini, mereka menanti apakah rencana kepala-kepala negara untuk memperlekeh dan memperbodohkan rakyat jelata.

Entah apa strategi/rahsia besar mereka masakini sehinggakan mereka tiada apa yang hendak dikatakan setelah bermesyuarat panjang kecuali “no comment” dan cabut lari?

Harapan kita, mereka segera keluar dan dinyahkan dari kehidupan rakyat Malaysia secepat mereka mencari pintu dengan frasa “no comment”.

The Dark Knight

In my opinion the movie was great - the voice Bale chose to use as the Batman was a Clint Eastwood rip off. It got kinda distracting. Ledger was the star of the show. Great story and action. I hope Bale takes a little off the voice in the next one.A good story is always better than a great action film. I think many directors have forgotten that these days and The Dark Knight does have a lot of action, it's story is what kept me going from the first minute to the last. The action wasn't definitely icing on the cake though. This is the best movie i opted for this week.

AFTER ALL, SHERYL CROW IS A GENIUS IN HER PATH MAKING MUSIC INTERESTINGLY.
